Snarl was a tragic warrior and dimensional freedom fighter who became one of the dreaded Stormriders after falling into the service of the Terror. Once a rebel struggling against the domination of the Hundred Worlds, Snarl’s transformation into a herald of destruction stripped away much of the life he once fought to defend.
Though remembered by most only as a savage enemy, Snarl occupies a unique place in heroic history because of the circumstances of his death at the hands of Booster — a moment that haunted the hero for the remainder of her career.
Origins
[edit]Snarl originated in one of the alternate dimensions dominated by the sprawling interdimensional civilization known as the Hundred Worlds. In his native reality, he fought as part of a resistance movement opposing imperial control and dimensional occupation.
Little is known about his original people, though surviving accounts suggest they were highly adapted hunters and trackers possessing heightened physical capabilities and strong clan traditions. Snarl himself was reportedly related to Wildcat, sharing many of the same feral physical traits and predatory instincts.
Unlike later depictions of him as a monstrous servant of darkness, those who knew Snarl before his corruption described him as fierce, proud, and deeply loyal to his comrades.
He fought for freedom.
That was what made his fall so terrible.
Capture By General Bane
[edit]During one of the Hundred Worlds campaigns, Snarl was captured by General Bane, one of the most feared military commanders associated with the rise of the Terror.
Rather than executing him, Bane offered Snarl a horrifying bargain:
eternal life and unimaginable power in exchange for service.
Broken by imprisonment, war, and the collapse of his resistance movement, Snarl accepted.
The transformation bound him spiritually and physically to the Terror’s expanding interdimensional crusade, reshaping him into one of the Stormriders — superhuman heralds who traveled dimensions carrying destruction and conquest in their wake.
Whatever remained of the freedom fighter became buried beneath rage, violence, and corruption.
The Stormriders
[edit]As a member of the Stormriders, Snarl became feared across multiple realities for his speed, savagery, and relentless hunting ability. Unlike more overtly cosmic members of the group, Snarl specialized in direct pursuit and close-quarters slaughter.
He hunted enemies personally.
And he enjoyed it.
Even among the Stormriders, however, traces of his former self occasionally seemed visible. Some reports describe moments of hesitation or flashes of confusion during battle, as though fragments of the rebel warrior still survived beneath the Terror’s influence.
If so, they did not save him.
Powers
[edit]Snarl possessed formidable superhuman abilities.
His powers included:
- Superhuman speed
- Enhanced reflexes
- Accelerated agility
- Retractable claws capable of tearing reinforced materials
- Heightened senses
- Superior tracking instincts
In combat, Snarl fought with feral intensity, relying on speed, ambush tactics, and relentless aggression to overwhelm opponents before they could react.

[edit]Before his corruption, Snarl had been a skilled resistance fighter and wilderness hunter.
His expertise included:

Even after becoming a Stormrider, much of his effectiveness came from instinct and battlefield experience rather than brute force alone.
Death At The Hands Of Booster
[edit]Snarl’s first confrontation with Earth’s heroes ended tragically during a battle with Booster. In the chaos of combat, Booster accidentally killed Snarl — reportedly without fully understanding either the extent of her own power or the nature of the opponent she faced.
Though many heroes had killed before under extreme circumstances, the event affected Booster profoundly.
Snarl’s death was not celebrated.
It was horrifying.
Witnesses later described the moment as one of shock and silence rather than triumph. Booster herself carried guilt over the incident for the rest of her heroic career, viewing Snarl not merely as a monster but as someone who had once been a hero in his own world before corruption claimed him.
For Booster, Snarl became a permanent reminder that even righteous battles can end in tragedy.
Legacy
[edit]Though only active for a relatively brief period, Snarl became one of the defining tragic antagonists associated with the Stormrider conflicts and the wider mythology of the Terror.
His story embodied one of the central fears surrounding the Terror’s influence: that even noble souls could be twisted into instruments of destruction.
And that sometimes, heroes arrive too late to save them.
