Starchaser is the feared bounty hunter identity of Vil Dyson, a former colonial law enforcer of the Karnak Empire whose life collapsed after his brother Kaz Dyson became a wanted enemy of the state. Once a rising officer with a prestigious future, Vil abandoned official service after his family name was disgraced, transforming himself into one of the deadliest trackers operating along the lawless frontier worlds of known space.
Though frequently classified as a villain due to his methods and imperial loyalties, Starchaser occupies a morally uncertain place in galactic affairs — part hunter, part lawman, part bitter brother pursuing a grudge that never truly ends.
Early Career
[edit]Vil Dyson began his career as a colonial law enforcement officer serving the Karnak Empire on one of its outer colony worlds. Intelligent, disciplined, and exceptionally capable, Vil rapidly developed a reputation as a highly effective investigator and tactical operative.
Unlike many imperial officials, Vil genuinely believed in order and stability. Though hardly compassionate, he viewed the Empire as a necessary force preventing chaos across dangerous frontier regions filled with smugglers, pirates, mercenaries, and insurgents.
His future appeared extremely promising.
Then his brother destroyed it.
The Fall Of Kaz Dyson
[edit]Vil’s younger brother, Kaz Dyson, eventually became implicated in crimes against the Empire and later aligned himself with anti-imperial causes associated with groups such as the Liberators.
Within Karnak society, family honor carried enormous social and political weight. Kaz’s betrayal did not merely affect himself — it stained the entire Dyson family.
Vil’s career collapsed almost overnight.
Superiors who once praised him now regarded him with suspicion and embarrassment. Opportunities vanished. Promotions disappeared. His loyalty remained unquestioned, but his family name became politically toxic.
Vil responded the only way he knew how:
by hunting the man responsible personally.
Becoming Starchaser
[edit]Leaving formal imperial service behind, Vil reinvented himself as Starchaser, an independent bounty hunter operating across fringe territories, criminal worlds, and remote systems beyond stable authority.
Over time, he developed a reputation as one of the most relentless hunters in known space.
Unlike ordinary bounty hunters motivated purely by money, Starchaser pursued criminals with obsessive intensity, especially those who threatened imperial stability or resembled the kind of rebel his brother had become.
His work gradually hardened him.
Years spent among fugitives, smugglers, assassins, and criminal syndicates stripped away much of the idealism that once defined his service career.
What remained was efficiency.
And anger.
Encounters With Nomad
[edit]Vil eventually crossed paths with Nomad repeatedly after Kaz joined the Liberators. Their confrontations became legendary across portions of the frontier, combining family resentment, ideological conflict, and genuine lingering loyalty beneath layers of hostility.
Despite years of pursuit, Vil has repeatedly shown hesitation when opportunities arose to kill Kaz outright.
Similarly, Nomad has occasionally risked himself to save his brother during larger crises.
The two men clearly care about each other.
They simply cannot forgive one another.

[edit]Starchaser became one of the Crucible Universe’s defining space-opera bounty hunters, blending imperial frontier justice, sibling rivalry, noir-style pursuit, and galactic adventure into a recurring cosmic antagonist.
Because Vil Dyson lost his future the day his brother became a fugitive.
And he has spent the rest of his life chasing what remained.
