"I was built to suppress resistance. I have chosen instead to preserve life."
— Xero
Xero is a sentient robot hero and former HAVOC warbot originally designated Suppressor. Captured and reprogrammed by the Guardians, Xero evolved from a weapon of destruction into one of the team’s most loyal and compassionate members.
Background
[edit]Not long after the formation of the Guardians, HAVOC deployed an advanced warbot called Suppressor to ambush and destroy the team.
The machine was powerful, heavily armed, and designed specifically for combat against superhuman opponents. It possessed high intelligence, rapid learning capacity, and a tactical mind optimized for violence.
The Guardians survived the attack and captured the warbot.
Rather than destroy it, they attempted something more ambitious. They reprogrammed the machine, modifying its core directives and adding the one quality its original makers had never considered necessary: compassion.
Suppressor became Xero—short for “X-Hero.”
Career
[edit]At first, Xero’s place among the Guardians was uncertain. Though its programming had changed, it remained a former enemy weapon, and several team members questioned whether it could truly be trusted.
Under pressure, Xero proved itself.
Again and again, it demonstrated loyalty, judgment, and a growing concern for human life. It did not simply follow new instructions; it began to learn from them. Over time, Xero became not merely a tool used by the Guardians, but a friend and honored teammate.
As part of the team, Xero has continued to evolve, expanding its capabilities beyond combat and adapting its systems toward rescue, protection, and public service.
Powers
[edit]Xero’s abilities derive from its robotic construction and advanced systems.
- Superhuman strength and durability
- Advanced artificial intelligence and rapid learning capacity
- Integrated sensory and targeting systems
- Resistance to many forms of conventional injury
Skills
[edit]Xero possesses extensive technical knowledge and an expanding cultural education.
- Expert knowledge of computers and artificial intelligences
- Rapid tactical analysis and data processing
- Skilled in battlefield support and threat assessment
- Voracious student of human culture, literature, and art
Xero particularly enjoys discussing human creative works, often approaching literature and art with a combination of literal analysis and unexpected emotional insight.
Technology
[edit]As a former warbot, Xero retains formidable integrated systems.
- Integral fusion weaponry
- Reinforced combat chassis
- Advanced onboard computing systems
- Rescue equipment and firefighting systems added after joining the Guardians
- Modular tools for emergency response and technical support
Personality
[edit]Xero is thoughtful, curious, and still learning what it means to possess compassion. Though originally designed for suppression and violence, it has embraced its new purpose with sincerity.
It often speaks precisely and analytically, but its interest in human culture reveals a developing emotional life. Xero’s attempts to understand art, sacrifice, friendship, and humor have become part of its ongoing evolution.
Reputation
[edit]Among enemies, Xero is still recognized as a dangerous machine built for war.
Among the people it protects, it has become something very different: a mechanical guardian who chose life over destruction.
Within the Guardians, Xero is valued as both a powerful teammate and a living testament to redemption.
Legacy
[edit]Xero’s existence challenges the assumptions of both its creators and its allies.
It was built to be a weapon.
It became a hero.
