Peril:Equipment

From Crucible Codex
The Peril Patrol leaps into action!.

Equipment

[edit]

No superhero team is better equipped than the Peril Patrol! Several are more safely equipped, but that is a separate question.

The Astonishing Arsenal of Peril!

From the workshops and hangars of Peril Peak come the most advanced vehicles, computers and crime-fighting gadgets that Mastermind can build with available parts.

Every item has been rigorously tested during at least one genuine emergency.

The Vehicles of Peril

[edit]

The Peril Plane

The Peril Plane

The Peril Plane is the Patrol’s principal airborne vehicle. It carries the entire team, an impressive quantity of emergency equipment and exactly as much fuel as the story requires.

The Peril Plane fits inside its hangar—barely. It leaks freely and flies sometimes. A handwritten sign beside it assures pilots that the nose “closes barely.”

The Peril Sub

The Peril Sub

The Peril Sub is the Patrol’s pink, duck-shaped vehicle for underwater operations. Its distinctive appearance allows it to approach waterfowl without attracting suspicion.

The Sub’s hangar is flooded, slippery and quacktastic. Most of the water comes from the bathroom directly above it.

TRAVEL BY LAND! TRAVEL BY SEA! TRAVEL BY AIR! ARRIVE SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Tokyo Joe’s Robot

[edit]

Super Yeah! OK, Chief!

Tokyo Joe and his robot

Tokyo Joe is a very small man who operates a hulking robot from a television screen in its control dome. Whether the machine is a vehicle, a costume, a teammate or all three depends upon which insurance form is being completed.

The robot is immensely powerful, heavily armored and equipped with dozens of colorful buttons. Tokyo Joe knows what several of them do.

Repairs are performed in Tokyo Joe’s robot garage, amid spare parts, oil leaks and questionable wiring.

Mister Chips

[edit]

The Computer That Walks Like a Man!
Mister Chips, the Peril Patrol’s walking computer
Mister Chips

Mister Chips is a walking, talking personal computer with arms, legs and an expressive television screen. Mastermind lists him under “team equipment”; Mister Chips lists Mastermind under “known system errors.”

Mister Chips can communicate with Peril Peak’s enormous computer installation, perform complicated calculations and recognize an impending catastrophe several seconds before everyone else.

Mastermind’s Inventions

[edit]
Crime-Fighting Gadgets

Mastermind can invent whatever astonishing device the Patrol requires. His machines are generally equipped with blinking lights, rotary dials, unnecessary antennae and at least one control whose purpose he cannot remember.

Operating instructions are rarely written down because Mastermind considers them obvious.

The Giant Lever

Mastermind’s laboratory contains an enormous lever marked DO NOT PULL.

The lever is connected to something important.

The Patrol Field Kit

The standard Patrol field kit contains communicators, flashlights, rope, an incorrect map and one mysterious gadget Mastermind forgot to label.

The batteries are stored in another field kit.

Important Maps

Peril Peak’s command center maintains an extensive collection of important maps. These include , the surrounding countryside and several places that apparently do not exist.

None of the maps shows the quickest route out of Peril Peak.

Peril Peak Systems

[edit]
The Perilputer

Mister Chips’s computer room contains an enormous electronic computer he calls the Perilputer, occupying most of an entire floor. It uses magnetic tape, flashing lights and enough electricity to dim whenever someone asks it a difficult question.

Mister Chips has been issued a tiny desk.

The Peril Reactor

Peril Peak is powered by an advanced reactor, several exercise bicycles and a network of extension cords.

During periods of high demand, everyone pedals.

Official Operating Procedure

[edit]
Before Activating Any Peril Patrol Equipment
  1. Ask Mastermind what it does.
  2. Wait for Mister Chips to disagree.
  3. Make sure Chameleon is not hiding inside it. Then make sure he's not hiding AS it.
  4. Confirm that Tokyo Joe has pressed the correct button.
  5. Check whether the smoke was already there.
  6. Do not pull the giant lever.
  7. Pull the giant lever.
