Peril:Peril Peak
Peril Peak
[edit]Located safely outside Skyscraper City, Peril Peak is the astonishingly high-tech headquarters of the Peril Patrol—and the only superhero base equipped with both a nuclear reactor and enough extension cords to run it.
Carved into a rocky mountain overlooking Skyscraper City, Peril Peak serves as the Patrol’s command center, laboratory, residence, vehicle hangar and principal source of unexplained smoke.
The Peak contains everything four modern superheroes require: blinking lights, rotary telephones, enormous tape-driven computers, important maps, questionable plumbing and several machines bearing signs that say DO NOT PULL.
Command and Control
[edit]The nerve center of Peril Peak contains banks of mysterious instruments, rotary telephones, blinking lights and several important maps. Smoke is considered a normal part of operations unless it changes color.
Here, Mastermind conducts experiments, fills blackboards with useless equations and constructs inventions that sometimes perform their intended function.
The laboratory’s largest control is a giant lever prominently labeled DO NOT PULL.
Mister Chips maintains an enormous computer installation occupying almost an entire floor of the Peak. Mister Chips himself has been provided with a very small desk.
Tokyo Joe stores and repairs his mighty robot here, surrounded by spare parts, oil leaks and questionable wiring.
The room contains nearly every replacement component he could need, although none of them appear to fit.
Living Quarters
[edit]The Patrol’s sleeping quarters contain four beds and four disasters. Personal belongings, discarded costumes and unidentified pieces of machinery are distributed evenly across the floor.
Chameleon maintains an extensive disguise collection consisting of ninety-seven identical trench coats and ninety-seven identical fedoras.
He insists that each is intended for a completely different identity.
Peril Peak’s bathroom features questionable plumbing and a large quantity of exposed pipework. The drains empty directly into the Peril Sub hangar, a feature Mastermind describes as “efficient.”
When not defending , the Patrol relaxes here among beanbag chairs, battered sofas and a vending machine that is currently out of everything.
The ceiling leak is believed to originate in the bathroom, although nobody has volunteered to investigate.
Getting Around the Peak
[edit]The main entrance is concealed behind an enormous boulder. Visitors pull the exterior knob and the entire boulder swings open, assuming nobody has parked against it from the inside.
The Peak’s glass elevator connects most major levels and travels more slowly than anyone expects. It is frequently marked OUT OF ORDER, whether or not this is true.
For rapid deployment, the Patrol may descend through the Peak using an emergency fire pole.
The pole does not reach the ground floor.
Hangars and Transportation
[edit]The Peril Plane fits inside its hangar—barely. It leaks freely and flies sometimes.
A handwritten notice beside the aircraft assures pilots that its nose “closes barely.”
The flooded lowest chamber houses the Peril Sub, the Patrol’s pink, duck-shaped underwater vehicle.
The hangar is flooded, slippery and quacktastic. Water from the bathroom arrives at irregular intervals.
Power, Awards and Other Facilities
[edit]Peril Peak’s reactor is powered by you, several exercise bicycles and a complicated network of extension cords.
Visitors are encouraged to pedal continuously during emergencies.
The Patrol’s trophy room proudly displays one participation ribbon.
There is still plenty of space for future achievements.
PLEASE DO NOT PULL THE GIANT LEVER.
