— Outlander

Outlander is the adopted name of S'mon R'yidh, a shapeshifting alien hunter who turned against the Karnak Empire after being sent to capture the hero Viceroy. Once an agent of imperial authority, he now fights alongside those he was sent to hunt as a member of the Liberators.

Background

[edit]

S'mon R'yidh was trained as a bounty hunter in service to the Karnak Empire, a role that demanded discipline, patience, and absolute focus on the target. His species, gifted with powerful adaptive abilities, was particularly well suited to tracking and capturing elusive prey across a wide range of environments.

He was eventually assigned one of the Empire’s most difficult targets: Viceroy.

The pursuit led him to Earth, where the encounter did not unfold as expected. Rather than simply defeating him, Viceroy confronted S'mon with something he had not accounted for: a sense of purpose that did not align with imperial command.

The mission ended.

The perspective did not.

Turning Point

[edit]

After his defeat, S'mon reconsidered the assumptions that had defined his work. The Empire he served presented itself as order and necessity, but his encounter with Viceroy revealed a different possibility, one in which power could be used without domination.

He chose to abandon his mission.

That decision effectively severed his ties with the Karnak Empire.

The Liberators

[edit]

S'mon adopted the name Outlander and later joined the Liberators, fighting alongside Viceroy and others opposed to imperial control. His experience as a hunter has proven invaluable, particularly in tracking targets across hostile environments and anticipating the tactics of those still loyal to Karnak.

He understands how the Empire operates.

He used to be part of it.

Powers

[edit]

Outlander possesses the natural abilities of his species.

  • Shapeshifting – Can alter his physical form for disguise or adaptation
  • Enhanced Strength – Considerable physical power
  • Enhanced Durability – High resistance to injury

His transformations are precise and controlled, allowing him to operate in a wide variety of conditions.

Skills

[edit]

Outlander is a highly trained professional.

  • Expert tracker and hunter
  • Combat experience across multiple environments
  • Technical aptitude with advanced systems
  • Field repairs and improvisation

He approaches every situation as something to be understood first, confronted second.

Personality

[edit]

S'mon R'yidh is deliberate, observant, and guided by a personal code that has evolved beyond his original training. He does not speak often, but when he does, his words are measured and direct. His shift in allegiance was not impulsive; it was the result of careful consideration and a willingness to change course when presented with a better path.

He does not regret that decision.

He simply accepts its consequences.

Reputation

[edit]

Among the Liberators, Outlander is respected as a reliable and disciplined ally. His background makes him particularly effective against Karnak forces, though it also ensures that he remains a target for those who consider him a defector.

Among his former employers, he is something worse.

A precedent.

Legacy

[edit]

Outlander represents the possibility of choice within systems built to deny it. Trained to hunt without question, he instead chose to question the hunt itself, and in doing so redefined his place in the conflict.

He was sent to bring in a hero.

He stayed to become one.
