Booster is the armored hero identity of Amanda Matthews, a prodigy engineer, frontline member of Watchstar, and younger sister of Tech. Where Simon Matthews helped build the technological infrastructure of the modern heroic age, Amanda stepped directly into the field, turning her own brilliance into action and becoming one of Watchstar’s most beloved members.

Background

Amanda Matthews grew up in the same extraordinary household that produced Simon Matthews, and from an early age it was clear that genius ran in more than one direction. With a measured IQ of 172, Amanda mastered electronics, engineering, robotics, and computer science while most children her age were still finding their way through ordinary schoolwork. By sixteen, she had completed three university degrees and had already begun producing original designs that would have marked her as exceptional even without the Matthews name.

Her brother’s association with Watchstar gave Amanda a close view of the superhero world while she was still young. She saw not only the glamour and spectacle, but the danger, sacrifice, and technical infrastructure that made heroism possible. Simon built systems for heroes to use. Amanda wanted to stand beside them.

That difference became the defining contrast of the Matthews siblings.

The Matthews Equation

Together, Simon and Amanda Matthews became one of the most influential sibling pairings in the modern heroic era. Simon’s genius reshaped communications, energy systems, vehicles, artificial intelligence, and Watchstar’s operational backbone. Amanda brought the same level of brilliance into a suit of armor and then into battle, proving that the Matthews gift was not confined to laboratories and design rooms.

Among Watchstar veterans, the two were sometimes called “the Matthews equation”: one sibling solving the problem from behind the systems, the other flying straight into it with a smile and a weapons array.

The phrase stuck because it was true.

Becoming Booster

Amanda designed and built the first Booster armor in secret, drawing from her own engineering instincts while improving on earlier powered armor concepts associated with Protector. Simon objected to her entering the field, partly from protectiveness and partly because he understood better than most how dangerous Watchstar’s missions could become.

Amanda listened. Then she put on the armor anyway.

Her debut as Booster was not a stunt or a teenage rebellion, though it had traces of both. It was an assertion of identity. She had spent her life surrounded by impossible people doing impossible things, and she decided that admiration was not enough.

Watchstar

Booster quickly proved herself more than a gifted amateur in expensive armor. She became a core part of Watchstar’s operations, serving as a frontline armored combatant, a rapid-response flyer, and one of the team’s most capable systems engineers. Her technical skill allowed her to understand the team’s equipment from the inside out, while her optimism and sincerity made her indispensable in a very different way.

She is often described as the heart of Watchstar, not because she is naïve, but because she remembers what the team is supposed to mean. In a roster filled with veterans, cosmic powers, and damaged people carrying impossible histories, Booster remains one of the clearest voices for why the work matters.

Her closest friendship within the team is with SHOC, whom she has taken under her wing in an effort to teach him Earth customs, humor, slang, and the practical mysteries of ordinary life. Their friendship is one of Watchstar’s most enduring and affectionate bonds.

The Snarl Incident

Booster’s idealism was severely tested when, during a major battle, she was accidentally responsible for the death of the villain Snarl. The event shook her profoundly, forcing her to confront the fact that good intentions, brilliant engineering, and heroic courage do not always prevent irreversible consequences.

She remained with Watchstar, but the incident changed her. Booster became more careful, more deliberate, and more aware of the burden carried by anyone who enters the field with lethal levels of power at their command. Her optimism survived, but it became steadier and more mature.

Technology

Booster's Ninetales armor is one of the most advanced powered suits in regular heroic use, designed, built, maintained, and continuously upgraded by Amanda herself.

Personality

Amanda is shy, bookish, kind, and intensely idealistic. Outside the armor, she can be self-effacing and socially uncertain, more comfortable with machines and close friends than with public attention. As Booster, she becomes bolder and more direct, not because the armor creates a false persona, but because it gives her permission to express the courage she already has.

Her relationship with Simon remains central to her life. Their temperaments differ sharply, with Simon more reserved and strategic while Amanda is warmer, more openly emotional, and more willing to leap before the full model is complete. The trust between them is deep, even when they disagree.

Booster’s closest friend outside of Watchstar is Trinity Grace, the shadow-powered heroine known as Mistral. Despite operating in very different circles—Booster as a member of a world-class superteam and Mistral as part of an outlaw New York crew—the two are of similar age and temperament, and quickly formed a bond.

The contrast between them is striking: one backed by global resources and institutional support, the other working on the margins of legality. It has never mattered to them.

They compare notes, share tech ideas and playlists, and occasionally argue about whose team is crazier. Neither of them is wrong.

Reputation

Within Watchstar, Booster is regarded as both a technical asset and an emotional anchor. She is the teammate who can rebuild a damaged system, fly into the line of fire, and still remember that heroism is supposed to mean something.

To the public, she represents youthful brilliance and hope. To her enemies, she is often underestimated until the armor locks on and the first volley lands.

Legacy

Booster’s legacy is inseparable from the larger Matthews legacy, but it is not subordinate to it. Tech may have built much of the future’s infrastructure, but Booster proved that the same genius could take the field, make choices in real time, and stand with the people she admired.

She did not inherit heroism from her brother.

She built her own way into it.
