The Night Shift is a New York-based team of vigilante heroes known for its unconventional tactics, covert operations, and willingness to cross lines that more traditional superhero organizations avoid.

The team originally began as a partnership between veteran crimefighter Manhunter and the younger shadow-powered heroine Mistral. Acting as both mentor and partner, Manhunter trained Mistral in surveillance, investigation, and urban crimefighting, gradually building a network of allies around them.

Operating from Manhunter’s Lair in Red Hook, Brooklyn, the Night Shift evolved into one of the most feared and effective street-level teams in New York City.

Unlike many public superhero groups, the Night Shift specializes in covert investigations, organized crime, occult threats, kidnappings, disappearances, and superhuman criminal networks operating beneath the city’s surface. Their methods often involve intimidation, infiltration, illegal surveillance, and unsanctioned operations.

As a result, the team has developed a reputation as "outlaw superheroes" among both law enforcement and the broader superhero community.

Despite controversy surrounding their methods, few can deny the Night Shift’s effectiveness.

Cyrus Kempf is a veteran vigilante, investigator, and technical expert whose relentless determination formed the foundation of the team.

Mistral
Trinity Grace is a wielder of shadow-based powers and one of the Night Shift’s most dangerous field operatives.

Overcoat
Ivan Ural is a mysterious and extraordinarily powerful psychic whose abilities make him one of the team’s greatest assets.

Omen
Pandora McCoy is an occult investigator capable of communicating with ghosts and other supernatural entities.

Oz Traynor
The team’s remote operator, strategist, and support specialist, coordinating missions and intelligence operations from behind the scenes.

Operations

The Night Shift frequently operates in areas where more public superhero teams are ineffective or unwilling to intervene. Their investigations have uncovered criminal conspiracies, occult cults, trafficking rings, corrupt officials, and hidden superhuman threats throughout New York City.

The team’s members maintain extensive underworld contacts and often rely upon secrecy, intimidation, and psychological warfare rather than direct confrontation.

This approach has occasionally brought them into conflict with both law enforcement agencies and more idealistic heroes.

Reputation

Among ordinary citizens, the Night Shift inspires both fear and admiration. To many New Yorkers, they are dangerous vigilantes operating outside the law. To others, they are the heroes willing to do what more respectable organizations cannot.

Criminals throughout the city regard the Night Shift with particular dread, especially after dark.
