— Kodiak
Kodiak is the heroic identity of Kody Blake, an artificial life form engineered as the ultimate warrior by the villain Clone Master. Having rejected his intended purpose, Kodiak forged his own path as a hero, becoming a powerful and enduring presence in the modern superhero community.
Origin
Kodiak was created by Clone Master as a perfected combat organism—strong, resilient, and designed for obedience. Unlike his creator’s expectations, Kodiak developed independence and escaped before he could be fully controlled.
He fled north into the Canadian wilderness, living in isolation for a time while coming to terms with his existence. Removed from human society, he developed self-reliance and a personal code that would later define his actions as a hero.
Eventually, he moved south into the United States.
Early Career

Settling in New York City, Kodiak began using his strength to fight crime. During this period, he partnered frequently with Overcoat, becoming a known figure in the city’s street-level hero scene.
Though created as a weapon, Kodiak proved capable of restraint, discipline, and loyalty—traits that distinguished him from others of similar origin.
The Hero Wars
During the alien invasion known as the Hero Wars, Kodiak was recaptured by Clone Master, who sought to reclaim his creation. He was ultimately rescued by Watchstar, an event that marked a turning point in his career.
Following the conflict, Kodiak joined Watchstar and later became a founding member of Watchstar West, which eventually evolved into Knight/Watch.
Relationships And Family
Kodiak’s life has been shaped by complex personal relationships.
He was married for a time to Jade (Melissa Barnes-Blake), and the two have a child together, Dakota. Though their marriage ended, their shared history remains significant.
Kodiak is also connected to others created or altered by Clone Master, including his clone “brother” Blood and his genetic cousin Feral.
Watchstar Academy
After suffering a life-threatening crisis related to his unstable genetic composition, Kodiak temporarily retired from active heroics. During this period, he founded Watchstar Academy, a school for young superheroes.
The Academy produced several notable graduates, including Horus, and represented Kodiak’s effort to guide others toward better paths than the one he had been given.
The Bear’s Den
Following his recovery, Kodiak returned to New York and reopened The Bear’s Den, a bar originally established by Kid Sputnik. The bar became a gathering place for heroes and allies.
It was destroyed once by Brimstone, rebuilt, and later destroyed again during a battle with the demonic assassin Mr. Friendly.
Kodiak rebuilt anyway.
Later Career
Kodiak has continued to operate as a hero, sometimes independently and sometimes alongside others. He was a frequent partner of Rebel and later worked with the younger hero Mistral for a time.
Though no longer tied to a permanent team, he remains an active and respected figure.
Powers
Kodiak possesses significant physical and energy-based abilities.
- Superhuman Strength – Exceptional physical power
- Superhuman Durability – High resistance to injury
- Power Punch – Ability to channel energy into devastating close-range attacks
His abilities reflect his original design as a combat organism.
Skills
Kodiak’s experience has made him a highly capable combatant.
- Expert hand-to-hand fighter
- Extensive field experience as a hero and adventurer
- Leadership and mentorship
He has also developed more grounded skills over time.
- Skilled bartender (notably, an excellent margarita)
Technology
Kodiak wears a unique living “bodysuit” created by Clone Master.
- Symbiotic Armor – Provides protection and adapts to damage
- Metabolic Regulation – Helps stabilize his altered physiology
The suit is both tool and extension of his body.
Personality
Kodiak is stoic, grounded, and quietly determined. He does not speak much about his origins, but his actions reflect a consistent effort to define himself beyond them. He values loyalty, responsibility, and the idea that a person is more than what they were made to be.

Legacy
Kodiak’s story is one of self-determination. Created as a weapon, he chose to become a protector. His influence extends beyond his own actions, through the people he has trained, the communities he has supported, and the example he continues to set.
He was made to fight.
He chose what to fight for.
