Peoples Of The Young Kingdoms

The world is not crowded with strange folk. It is crowded with men—and with the ruins of those who once ruled them.

In the Young Kingdoms, what you are matters less than what you dare, what you serve, and what you will pay. Still, blood remembers. Old empires linger in the marrow. Some inherit more than others.

Choose your origin carefully. It will follow you.

Peoples And Boons

Each character chooses a people at creation. This grants a free Boon chosen from that People’s list below. You may take a second Boon from the general list by taking a Flaw, as normal. These Boons represent culture, upbringing, and blood—not rigid biology.

Humans

Restless. Ambitious. Unbound.

File:Young kingdoms humans.jpg

Most folk of the Young Kingdoms. They build the cities, crew the ships, fight the wars, and inherit the ruins of older powers. They are adaptable, ambitious, and short-lived. Humans are not bound by ancient expectation. They are free.

Appearance & Bearing: The humans of the Young Kingdoms (sometimes known as Mabden) are as varied as their lands—dark or fair, lean or broad, richly dressed or clad in rags—but they share a common quality: They are alive in a way the elder races are not. Humans move quickly, speak freely, and feel deeply. They love, hate, scheme, and dream with an urgency born of short lives and uncertain futures.

Where Melniboné remembers, humans strive. Where others hesitate, they dare.

They are not weighed down by ancient glory...instead, they intend to make their own.

Choose one Boon: Skilled • Lucky • Tough • Quick-Witted

Melnibonéans

Elegant. Decadent. Inhuman.

File:Melniboneans.jpg

The last scions of the dying Bright Empire of Melniboné, that ruled the world for ten thousand years. Its people are cruel, refined, and utterly certain of their superiority. They remember what others have forgotten—and resent what they have become. To walk among the human Young Kingdoms is, for them, an exile.

Appearance & Bearing:

Melnibonéans are tall, slender, and unnervingly graceful. Their features are fine and often sharp, with pale or alabaster skin and dark, heavy-lidded eyes. Many move with a languid, almost dreamlike poise, as though the world were slightly beneath their notice.

They usually dress in rich silks, elaborate armor, and decadent ornament, favoring beauty over practicality.

Their voices are soft, controlled, and rarely raised. Their manner is refined. Emotion is muted, distant, or expressed through cruelty rather than passion.

To most humans, they seem less like people—and more like something remembering how to pretend.

Choose one Boon: Sorcerer • Commanding Presence • Fearless • Noble Bearing

Suggested Flaws: Arrogant • Cruel • Doom-marked • Alien Outlook

Half-Melnibonéans

Divided blood. Uncertain soul.

File:Half melnibonean.jpg

The blood thins, but it does not vanish. Half-Melnibonéans stand between worlds. They lack the full detachment of the Bright Empire, yet something in them is not entirely human. They are often driven—by ambition, by hunger, or by something they do not understand.

Appearance & Bearing:

Half-Melnibonéans vary widely. Some resemble their human parent, marked only by an unusual pallor, striking eyes, or an unsettling stillness. Others inherit more of the ancient blood: fine features, unnatural grace, and a faint sense of detachment. There is often something just slightly off about them—too calm, too intense, or too difficult to read. They may pass among humans, but rarely unnoticed for long.

Choose one Boon: Strong-Willed • Catlike Reflexes • Sorcerer (Minor) • Striking

Suggested Flaws: Outsider • Haunted • Doom-marked • Unsettling Presence

Pan Tangians

Fervent. Brutal. Chaos-touched.

File:Pan tangians.jpg

The island theocracy of Pan Tang, home to a fanatic Mabden folk, does not fear Chaos. It embraces it. Its people are raised among demon cults, blood rites, and whispered bargains. Where others hesitate, they act. Where others recoil, they reach further.

They are not subtle. They are not safe.

Choose one Boon: Sorcerer • Fearless • Iron Will • Demon-Bound

Suggested Flaws: Cruel • Obsessed • Corrupt • Doom-marked

What Matters

Blood is only the beginning in the Young Kingdoms.

A beggar may bargain with a god. A prince may die in a gutter. Even an emperor may become a slave to the blade he carries.

Choose your blood. Then choose what you will do with it.
