The Cavaliers were Los Angeles’ first major superhero team and the premier West Coast hero organization of the Bronze Age.

The team first assembled under the leadership of Titan during a catastrophic attack by the supervillain Black Sun, who nearly succeeded in destroying Los Angeles. Following the team’s victory, the city government formally endorsed the Cavaliers and provided them with a fully equipped headquarters in downtown Los Angeles.

Backed by the scientific genius of Professor Marko, the Cavaliers quickly became one of the most respected superhero teams in America. Throughout the Bronze Age, they battled a wide range of threats including alien invaders, rogue super-scientists, occult menaces, and superhuman terrorists. Their adventures against enemies such as Clone Master and Phobos and Deimos became legendary across the West Coast.

Unlike some larger national teams, the Cavaliers developed a reputation for being deeply connected to the communities they protected. Their celebrity status in Los Angeles rivaled that of movie stars, athletes, and musicians during the height of their popularity.

Titan
Cyrus Alexander Ryder was the world’s first major battlesuited superhero and the founder and leader of the Cavaliers.

Captain Comet
Cooper Swift was a former astronaut capable of flying at supersonic speeds.

Moonstar
Stephen Allston was a disciple of the Shau-Rin Temple charged with a sacred mission to battle evil.

Spectra
Lynn Stephens was a parahuman able to manipulate light waves, become intangible, and create solid-light constructs.

Hammerhead
Delroy Durant was a former criminal transformed into a massively powerful superhuman whose strength and toughness made him the backbone of the team.

Decline And Legacy

The Cavaliers gradually came to an end following a series of personal tragedies and life changes among its members. Titan eventually succumbed to a long-term illness, depriving the team of its founder and central figure. Around the same period, Captain Comet suffered critical injuries during a mission from which he never fully recovered.

Meanwhile, Moonstar and Spectra left active superheroics after marrying and starting a family.

Without its core membership intact, the Cavaliers officially disbanded. Despite this, the team remains one of the defining superhero organizations of the Bronze Age and helped establish Los Angeles as one of the great superhero cities of Earth-11717.

Many later West Coast heroes cite the Cavaliers as a major inspiration.
