Supernova Squadron is a long-running tradition of teenage superheroes associated with Nathaniel Nova High School in Pacific City, California. Though the team continues to exist in the Modern Age with entirely different members, the lineup most closely associated with the name remains the original Bronze Age incarnation.
The first Supernova Squadron was formed during the Bronze Age in response to the rise of the teenage supervillain gang Rock n' Roll. As student crime and superhuman violence escalated around the school and throughout Pacific City, a number of gifted young heroes banded together to oppose them.
What began as an informal alliance of inexperienced teenagers gradually evolved into one of the most beloved youth superhero teams of its era. Over time, the original Squadron became involved in increasingly serious threats ranging from organized supercrime and occult dangers to alien invasions and parahuman conspiracies.
The Bronze Age team became famous for its combination of youthful optimism, internal drama, and genuine heroism. Many former members later graduated into adult superhero careers, with some eventually joining larger organizations or becoming major heroes in their own right.
Although the original roster has long since moved on, the Supernova Squadron tradition continues to this day. Successive generations of students continue to adopt the name, protecting the school and Pacific City from new threats as older members graduate and depart.
